Lewis will present Coyote Wisdom: Ways for Spiritual Transformation and Miraculous Healing at The Fourth International Conference on Shamanism, January 21-25, 2005 in Santa Fe, NM.

Shamans the world over have developed many techniques for transformation. The first transformation occurs within the consciousness of the individual and within his or her family and community groups. Through storytelling, the shaman cultivates ideas of faith, hope, and possiblity of healing. Through testimonials, the shaman reinforces those ideas and the belief in them.

Lewis will review examples of stories that teach transformation, and will explore to what extent our personal beliefs and our social system's belief actually guide the directions in which biology will flow. He will include an experiential section for the playful consideration of our own aches, pains and illnesses, and what healing stories we might adopt for their transformation. We will reflect upon the hidden wisdom of stories and how these stories inculcate the wisdom of healing without the person even recognizing what has happened.

Dr. Lewis Mehl-Madrona is the author of the Coyote Trilogy, three books about Native American inspired healing - Coyote Medicine, Coyote Healing and Coyote Wisdom. "I was blessed with cross-cultural origins, a Cherokee-Scotch mother and a Lakota-French father. Being of two cultures demands respect for both. I found myself simultaneously loving magic and science, fantasy and mathematics, spirituality and physics." - Lewis Mehl-Madrona, MD, PhD
