Candace Pert added to Science Conference faculty!!
After the brochure for the Sixth International Conference on Science and Consciousness went to press, we were pleased to add Candace Pert as a presenter.
The International Conference on Science and Consciousness will be held April 23 - 28, 2004 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
Candace Pert, author of Molecules of Emotion: The Science Behind Mind-Body Medicine, will be offering a workship on Emotions and Consicousness. Her pioneering research on how chemicals in our bodies form a dynamic information network, linking mind and body, is not only provocative, it is revolutionary.
Pert’s theory is that emotions are peptides. She says our every move, function and thought is influenced by our emotions because peptides (or information substances) bring messages to our cells. She is suggesting that our emotions are molecules and exist in real, concrete biological form.
This explains why and how our health is affected by our emotions. If these peptides are our emotions, then they continually come into contact with our immune system, endocrine system, nervous system, etc. Depending on our emotional state (happy, sad, angry, etc.) different peptides are released and, hence, different messages are sent throughout the body. Each peptide has its own emotional tone or mood that we can experience.
By establishing the biomolecular basis of our emotions and explaining these new scientific developments in a clear and accessible way, Pert empowers us to understand ourselves, our feelings, and the connection between our minds and our bodies in ways we could never possibly have imagined before.
