Anthropologist, Hank Wesselman, is one of those rare cutting-edge scientists who truly walks between two worlds. For much of the past 30 years, he has conducted research with an international team of scientists, exploring eastern Africa's Great Rift Valley in search of answers to the mystery of human origins. His trilogy: Spiritwalker, Medicinemaker, and Visionseeker are focused upon a series of visionary experiences that began spontaneously out in the bush of southern Ethiopia in the 1970s, intensified while living in Hawaii in the 1980s, and document his investigations into the shamanic worlds of magic, mystery, and meaning.

Keynote: Reflections on a Hawaiian Kahuna Elder
Hank Wesselman
Sunday, January 21, 2007
Ballroom 2:00pm - 3:00pm
While living in Hawaii in the 1980s, anthropologist Hank Wesselman experienced a series of intense spontaneous visionary altered states that drew him into the hidden worlds of the Hawaiian kahuna wisdomkeepers and shamans. His widely-read autobiographical trilogy about these experiences (Spiritwalker, Medicinemaker and Visionseeker) brought him into council with a well-known Kahuna Nui with whom a deep friendship developed over an eight-year period, one that produced revelations about the nature of the self, reality, the spiritual worlds, as well as the destiny of humanity.
Goal: Drawing upon cross cultural knowledge to expand our understanding of the nature of reality and the nature of the self.
Learning Objectives:
• To acquire knowledge of an indigenous view of reality,
• To broaden the participant's worldview and perspective on the self, and
• To gain insights into how this information enhances the perspectives of
Western Psychology.
